From now until December 3, Chinese buyers who order a new Tesla vehicle through the company’s official trade-in service and receive delivery within the contract period will be eligible for a chance to win a tour of Tesla’s Giga Shanghai. The winner will receive a complimentary round-trip airfare and a one-night hotel stay, Tesla announced today on Weibo.
Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai has been producing vehicles since 2019. Since July 2023, Tesla has stated that the factory has the capacity to build over 750,000 vehicles per year and is the primary production site for Tesla vehicles exported to regions without a Gigafactory. Tesla currently has five Gigafactories with three in the U.S and a fourth in Berlin, Germany to access the European market.

The Chinese Gigafactory experience is valid for 10 customers who each may also bring a plus one. The competition is suspected to be a result of Tesla’s wholesale numbers in the Chinese market. These numbers fell significantly in October despite various local governments in China introducing car-buying incentives to encourage people to trade in their old cars for new ones.
Tesla has recently had to compete with new Asian market competitors who are releasing their own renewable engine solutions, particularly in the hydrogen sphere. Many of these vehicles are much more efficient and affordable than what Tesla has to offer.
